mfin pokemon au

Even in a Pokemon AU, Julian was still Julian and still had a bit of a thing with regards to the calendar. So it really shouldn't surprise the Doctor that the two of them are walking through a field of tall grass right outside a forested area, searching for a Deerling. Summer had just started and Deerling's coat had just changed so naturally they were going to find one because that would make Julian happy and things that made Julian happy made the Doctor happy. It was as simple as that.

The Doctor's Sigilyph floats behind the older man as the two continue to traipse through the tall grass. "I dunno why we haven't found any yet," he admits, with a froooown. "There should be some around here. This is where they live, after all."

Julian has a Solrock with him (because it's daytime, and he brings it out during daytime, saving his Lunatone for night), mostly just in case. While this area wasn't known for particularly dangerous wild pokemon, you never knew.

He's glad the Doctor came with him, though. He's a loner, and he doesn't mind being alone, even without pokemon -- but the Doctor is a special case. He appreciates his company quite a bit. And it made this so far fruitless search a bit bearable.

"They have been known to grace this Route. Perhaps we should find a place to hide. Patience may bring us more than searching."

"You do know I'm not all that good at waiting, right?" It's mostly being grumpy for the sake of being grumpy. If waiting's what's needed in order to find this Pokemon, then the Doctor doesn't mind waiting and hiding in the bushes or what have you.

He won't like it, of course, but liking's a whole different thing entirely. You don't have to like it in order to do it.

"Still, there's trees and bushes over there we could actually do the hiding in."

"You could try." Julian's tone is calm but he's got a little smile.

He looks over at the bushes the Doctor's referring to. He considers it a moment, before nodding and walking that way, keeping an eye out for any ekans that might view his bare feet as a tasty treat.

"If it takes longer than an hour, we may have to try another day."

As Julian keeps an eye out on the ground, the Doctor keeps an eye out among the trees, looking from tree to tree. Once they reach the bushes, however, the Doctor just walks right past them towards a tree. A moment later, he starts to climb said tree, Sigilyph floating up to follow him.

"I don't mind coming back tomorrow if needed. That'll give us time to look up what they like to eat, so we can try and bribe them instead!"

He's an adult.

Julian steps on something weird, and picks up a potion some other trainer dropped, probably. Casually he pockets it as he watches Doctor climb the tree.

"I know a berry bush that's in season. Perhaps I should've visited it before we left."

Gently shoving Solrock into the bush, Julian climbs in after him. He's fine with heights, but climbing rough bark barefoot is a bit difficult.

Somewhere, some ten year old is probably confused as hell about these two grownass men, one of whom is climbing a tree, another of whom is hiding in a bush.

"That just means that if today's venture doesn't pan out, we'll know where to stop before we come back tomorrow!"

Because of course the Doctor's invited himself along on Deer Quest. Why wouldn't he?

Julian doesn't really question Doctor adopting the quest, though he'll (quietly) resent Doctor forever if the man catches a Deerling before him. That's just not on.

"If we don't find one today, consider it a date."

There's a rustle from some nearby grass, and Julian immediately goes silent, tensing.

The Doctor also goes silent, grabbing tight onto the tree branches as he peers out into the grass. He's got more height than Julian so he has a better angle...and those ears look fairly close to a Deerling! Wonderful! He turns his head towards Julian to tell him except oh no wait, they're supposed to be quiet.

So, instead Julian gets a wide grin and a thumbs up from the Doctor. It's good! We're good!

Julian nods just a little, before carefully reaching for a pokeball and trying to climb out of the bushes -- and trips over a branch sending him sprawling across the ground in a dignified way.

The deerling startles and hops out of the grass, trying to dart away.

No no no no this isn't good! The Doctor tries to scramble down the tree to stop deerling as much as possible...before his feet slip and he ends up holding onto the tree branch with just his hands, legs dangling in the air.

Well, there's no way he can catch the pokemon like this. Sigilyph floats down from where it was, trying to somehow guide the Doctor's legs back up towards the tree.
